Francine Honey Releases New Single

It doesn’t get any more organic than watching musicians come together in perfect harmony on screen, and although they’re not in the same room for the “Can’t Press Reset” video, the players who make Francine Honey’s latest single come to life show us just how unforced the magic they produce is in this all-new visual companion. Of course, Honey herself is the star of this show, but in putting her in this sort of a setting for “Can’t Press Reset,” it makes it impossible for anyone to accuse her of having a synthetic continuity to her sound. This is real artistry in action, and beyond its important lyrical message, it’s a song that demonstrates the creative wit and wisdom of its creator too brilliantly to be ignored.

The lyrics resonate with the isolated feel of 2020 overall, but I will say that the melodies in this track are anything but claustrophobic. In response to a trending ‘quarantine pop,’ it would seem that Francine Honey is creating her own twist on a new sound within the industry that, for her purposes, focuses more on the atmospheric tones that bind her sound more than it does the blunt tonal smothering of an ultra-tight master mix. By going this route, a single like “Can’t Press Reset” feels light and springy despite its weighty subject matter, and in this climate, I think that’s somewhat of a better fit for the modern country-pop consumer.

I just got into the music of Francine Honey in 2020, but judging from the growth she’s shown between the release of her 2018 record To Be Continued… and this recent studio work, her trajectory is pointed towards stardom over irrelevancy for sure. I love how evocative some of the more subtle details in “Can’t Press Reset” are, and if given a little more time to get the country-inspired elements of her sound sharpened, I don’t see where Honey wouldn’t find as big a following in the United States with her style of play as she has in Canada. The future looks good for this singer/songwriter, and after hearing “Can’t Press Reset,” I think you’re going to agree.
