Review: Larry Jay’s “Wow” Is the Ultimate Lovers’ Soundtrack

Ever gone out on a picnic in the woods with a potential romantic partner on a sunny, summer afternoon and had an incredibly pleasant and wonderful time together, way better than you had anticipated? And then when you went back home and stood at the window watching the cloudy, moonlit sky, all you could do was smile as you flashed back on those ethereally delightful moments of sweet romance and blissful love? Well then, Country music maestro Larry Jay’s song Wow feels and looks exactly like that.

Larry has been the architect of countless memorable tunes over the years, and like fine wine, he has only gotten better with age. The New York native has cut out a niche for himself with his impeccable songwriting that is exceptionally honest and allows the listener to connect to his songs as an expression of the human experience.

Wow is an evocative pop-infused Country ballad that “takes you to a place that makes your heart go wow.” The tasteful strums of the guitar and the song’s sublime melody create an intimate ambiance that feels like the sun setting far out on the horizon as a cool, gentle breeze blows over the calm, clear waters of a lake in the countryside.

The song’s lyrics are, however, the jewel in the crown of this particular song. They evoke images of love and envelop the listener in a cloud of romantic euphoria. In an uncanny way, Larry is able to stir feelings of amorous affection through his tasteful choice of words. Lyrics such as “I got a lover that drives me crazy, with every little kiss she kills me, saves me” and “From my head down to my toes I feel the fire grow and grow” display the sheer intensity of the experience of love he is describing.

Larry also employs the creative use of language in a manner that euphemizes some of his more lasciviously erotic messages, such as in the case of the lyrics “Going to the land of rock and roll” and “Sometimes we don’t get to sleep till the sun shuts down the moon”. He is passionate in his delivery, and his voice oozes conviction which adds to the musical aesthetic appeal of the song.

While Wow doesn’t break any new frontier for the seasoned hit-maker, it is another excellent opportunity for Larry’s fans to appreciate his creativity and musicality. It is the perfect song to listen to during a lazy evening as you rock yourself on the patio chair with your lover in your lap. It can make for an excellent soundtrack to those sweet-nothings that are usually whispered during such intimate moments.
