Hot Half Dozen: a New Year/a new day

Happy New Year!

The new year of 2021 looks to be much better year that 2020. The vaccine is coming – actually already being put in people’s arms in Mexico and the US, although with less speed and more confusion than we hoped. But, if things go well, live music should be back in time for some of the summer festivals. Plus, Congress passed and the President signed (reluctantly after stalling for several days), the second Covid relief bill which includes $15 billion in funding for music venues, thanks to 2.1million emails sent to Congress by you music fans. NIVA is working on a task force to make sure the money gets to independent music venues and is not stolen by big corporations and people with political influence.

Also, 2021, will be a little different for us here at the Hot Half Dozen and Music Sin Fronteras radio. We will be moving our HHD posting day from Monday to Tuesday. The Hot Half Dozen selects 6 of the top songs, videos, or albums sent to us in the preceding week, but we have found that a ton of submissions arrive too late Monday to be considered and by the next week they are not fresh. So, by shifting to Tuesday, we can make sure we miss nothing.

We are also considering moving Musin Sin Fronteras from Friday afternoon to Thursday. The reason is purely selfish – everyone here wants a three-day weekend and we can’t take Monday off because a lot of crazy things have to be done on Monday, so Thursday will be the new day. That will likely start at the end of this month.

For those of you who followed us from the US to Mexico, you know that Music Sin Fronteras is on Friday’s because it was Music Friday in the US. It was Music Friday because, when my co-host at The Fairness Doctrine political talk show I co-hosted for 5 years had to leave for health reasons, I decided a 2-hour a day, 5 day a week political talk show was more than I could hande, so i just retained the Friday segment, which was about music, and changed the name to Music Friday. But there is nothing sacred about Fridays (at least in music) so we will shift to Thursdays.

Finally, we may try to interview artists again. We stopped because of the unreliable connection between the local Telmex phone company, the iLox internet provider and our platform Blogtalkradio.com. Telmex and the internet provider tell us it should not be a problem, but you know, the proof is in the flan, so we will see. Actually, we will start by pre-recording interviews on Wednesdays and then playing them the next day. That way, if the connection fails as it did so many times in 2020, we are not on the air, embarrassed and with no show. We can to a DJ show the following day without worrying about losing a guest in the interwebs.

These are NOT new year’s resolutions, so they WILL happen. And we hope you enjoy them Follow our FB and Twitter for final details. And come back Tuesday night for the Hot Half Dozen
