Based in the United States, The Valiant One is the moniker of Terry Wilburt. He’s been performing music for over 17 years and has also recorded under the name 5 Star General and The Chief. “I Know You Know” is from the album The Resistance of God: Season Of A King via Wilburt’s own Christ Life Records. As a listener, what struck me most, besides the spirited delivery and relentless drive that can heard (and felt) in this particular track is that The Valiant One mixes a music bed that has aggression and conflict. Far be it for me to say it’s chaotic or dark, but I had to wonder if the tone and the overall presentation came to be a metaphor for his strong foundational faith in a turbulent world. His voice is unwavering. His rap style quick and rapid.

I know you know how much I really love you, Jesus. Don’t act like you don’t know, The Valiant One slays. The richness in his deep voice is heartfelt and stoic. While other rap or hip hop songs might drown out the vocals or lay heavily on the beat, “I Know You Know” is the perfect blend of stellar flow and unwavering rhythm. The music bed is eclectic enough to feel like you’ve never heard such a thing, but is quick to embrace. I felt comfortable marinating in the music base for some time and took my attention just as easily to The Valiant One’s lyrical delivery. He’s mesmerizing. If I had to compare him to another mainstream rapper, I would guestimate he would land somewhere between Eminem and Lecrea (in terms of style). In terms of messaging and artistry, The Valiant One is undeniably unique. He certainly stands on his own and is forging an incredible path. Supposing you were just an occasional rap fan or fringe hip hop listener, “I Know You Know” is the ideal track.

The Valiant One is slick. I like his style and the way he brings in his faith is incredible. He generates a plethora of energy in the music bed. It’s invigorating and it’s also inspiring. When he slings lines like I love God, so I’ll keep it cool, he really owns it. He’s genuine. His artistic pallet really covers a wide swath of electronic sounds. It’s a strong trust that he builds with the audience and that is something to celebrate. I have faith he will continue to ride on this wave.
