Mauri Dark’s “Poison Woman” Is An Intriguing Affair

Beginning with a mysterious, enigmatic piano/guitar introduction, Mauri Dark’s new song ‘Poison Woman’ is an intriguing affair. Sounding like it’s been taken off a James Bond or spy movie soundtrack (in the best way possible), ‘Poison Woman’ is a fun throwback song reminiscent of the heyday of this type of music in the 70s. However, with modern upgrades to the instrumentation and production, ‘Poison Woman’ still blends in with the relevant music of today. One thing that is inescapably distinct about ‘Poison Woman’ that listeners will no doubt notice is how deep and rich Mauri Dark’s baritone voice is. It’s rare to hear a voice that can reach low notes like Mauri can, and he utilises that range to good effect in lines like “Now the venom is in me/Like black ink in my bloodstream”. Mauri skilfully portrays just how he feels about this ‘Poison Woman’ with direct lyrics such as “You always left me wanting/Now I want no more/You always kept me waiting/Now my time has gone/Because you’re poison”. This won’t be your typical listen, but the combination of Mauri’s unusually rich tones, memorable story and haunting production will keep you on the edge of your seats for the song’s duration.
