Hot Half Dozen February 9, 2021

From 54 submissions last week.

Ocean, single by Willa Amai.  Soft, sweet, moving. Amai says,  “Ocean is about the moment where I could understand that strength and stability in my mental health could be supported by another person.” Understated power in music.  Stream on Spotify, Apple Music, Soundcloud, YouTube. Follow at www.willaamai.com

2050 , single by Samantha Sanchez. The third song released the rising Spanish singer-songwriter talks about getting everything you wanted and then found you lost what was important because of ambition. An addictive Latin hip-hop beat illuminated with electronic accents.  Fun, and thought provoking – always a good combination.  Stream on Spotify, YouTube. Follow on Instagram.

The Artist in the Ambulance by Rough Dreams. Knoxville’s super creative hard rock band releases a “covers from the graves” album: that displays their unique approach to hard rock – melodic, pounding, and urgent.  My favorite track is the Thrice hit “The Artist I the Ambulance”. Tough stuff, but well done.  Stream on all platforms. Follow at https://www.facebook.com/roughdreams

Somebody Here is Walkin’, single by Pamela Hopkins .  One of two great new songs Hopkins released last week, the other being “Little Things” a duet with  Matt Dame. Both grab your ears, but her pure powerful voice and hooks just took me over in Someone here is Walkin’. Stream on Spotify, Soundcloud, YouTube.  Follow at https://pamelahopkinsmusic.com/, Tiktok and all socials.

Vas, single/video by Blssom  .So sweet, so addictive.  The duo has found a romantic groove that swings and sways.  Even if you don’t understand the Spanish, it will make you happy with its lush production, hypnotic vocals.  Stream on Spotify, Deezer, YouTube, Apple Music   Follow  at https://www.blssom.com/

Hope (Esperanza) by Jessica Medina ft. Danko .  Melodic, romantic, lush, unforgettable.  Hope (Esperanza) welcomes the new year with the feelings we have all missed – hope and joy and love.  The dual language lyrics are carried by a perfect mixture of muted jazz drumming, Spanish guitar twangs, a deep bass, and perfectly pitched hip-hop by Danko.  Available on all platforms. Video on YouTube. Follow  at https://www.facebook.com/JessicaMedinaMusic/
