ANNA FOX ROCHINSKI Releases New Single “No Better”
Debut Solo Album Due Out March 26
Anna Fox Rochinski, of the psych-folk band Quilt, has released a new single from her forthcoming debut solo album Cherry. The track – titled “No Better” – is now available on Bandcamp and all digital streaming platforms.
The single follows last month’s release of the Official Music Video for AFR’s debut title track single “Cherry,” which was covered by NPR All Songs Considered, Stereogum, BrooklynVegan, and was included in The Needle Drop’s Best Songs of 2021 So Far.
The album Cherry will be released on March 26, 2021 and is available for pre-order and pre-save now.
“No Better” began as a garage rock song, but in the studio became deconstructed into an avant-garde piano ballad, which is more fitting for its lyrical content about heartbreak and disappointment. AFR delivers a strong, plaintive vocal performance, a mixture of empathy and anger: “I remember the pawn you played / You went and fucked up your little charade / but I can’t leave you down at the bottom.”
Rochinski completed Cherry after spending nearly a decade recording and touring with the collaborative psych rock band Quilt. You’ll notice immediately that Cherry is a total departure from her previous recorded output. Over the last few years, Rochinski realized pop was the most authentic vehicle for her and unites her varied musical influences under its umbrella, with an ebullient blend of progressive dance, electro funk, and DIY R&B.
Cherry was recorded with Ava Luna’s Carlos Hernandez and Julian Fader, who stepped up as producers to help organize and expand upon months of material. |
