Having formed in 2011, Rapper and Producer duo Conceptz have just struck gold with the release of their new single “Drippin & Drownin”. This is their latest release following their 2020 single “Hold This L” and their last album “Marble Floors and Gold Ceilings”. The duo has been upfront about their goals very transparently. They wanna make music that sticks out and competes the top players today and they’ve been working for over a decade and working alongside acts like Wiz Khalifa and Rick Ross to name a couple, it’s very apparent these two are making power plays, learning from the best and implementing it in their own style.
“Drippin & Drownin” is a flex song, the kind designed to make a club excited or that feeling you feel when you’re trying to impress someone or you’re just feeling good about yourself. It’s insanely straightforward in concept but in its execution, you find all these flourishes from rapper “HighRowGlyphFix” in his delivery that evokes a little bit of early Kendrick with some of the sounds of the major Atlanta hip hop icons and he’s certainly an icon in the making. He’s working alongside his long-time collaborator and another half of the group, “Short Fuze”, the producer who’s begging to be a music industry household name by this point. The beats he crafts are just exceptional and while familiar, it’s only in that they sound like they should have existed for a while now. This duo isn’t beholden to the past despite respecting it but is willing to move forward and not just chase trends like many of their contemporaries.
I’m curious to see what the future brings for the duo, as being active for a decade now has brought them a lot of attention with their music being featured in ads and alongside various sporting events, and like I’ve said, they’ve gained a lot of clout and respect by working with some legends who have no doubt helped them only hone their voice more. It would be no surprise to me if they just crank out banger after banger, but hopefully, it won’t take as long considering they haven’t had a full album in over 7 years now. We’re hungry for it, and from the sounds of this absolutely mint song, they’re ready to deliver.
It’s accessible enough for newcomers to hear their distinct sound and decide for themselves if they wanna go into their extensive back catalog of songs, which I would suggest as the duo has evolved so much over the years that for those wanting to explore some genuine artistic growth won’t be disappointed by going all-in on their work. The duo’s work is available on most major streaming platforms and the release of this single includes three versions including an instrumental for those who are fans of strong beats and maybe wanna experiment in a similar vein to Conceptz themselves. They’re Conceptz for a reason because they’re offering so much while leaving plenty of room to grow.
