Originally, the indie genre was used to refer to musicians who release albums on independent labels. It was assumed that these artists would work without regard to the mainstream, be able to experiment with sound, and create new musical styles. American actor Dylan Minnette, best known for playing Clay Jenson from the Netflix hit “13 Reasons Why”, has been writing songs since he was nine. He and his friends formed a collective called Wallows in the early 2000s, but their first hit, “Pleaser”, came out only in 2017. It was inevitably followed by an album called “Nothing Happens” and a big tour of the country.

Easy Life

A British alternative group of five formed in Leicester. It is simply impossible to attribute their music to any particular genre – there is rock, funk, and good old R’n’B here. Band leader Murray Matravers, along with his friend Sam Havitt, began experimenting with music at school. There they met the rest of the members: drummer Oliver and keyboardist Jordan.

Men I Trust

Formed in Montreal, the indie-pop group immediately fell in love with Canadians – largely due to its warm smoky sound and caressing female vocals. Men I Trust was founded by two high school friends, Jesse Caron and Dragos Chiriyak. The first one played the guitar, and the second one played the keys. They released their debut EP in 2014 when they were still looking for a vocalist. A year later, 23-year-old Emma, ​​also known for her solo project Bernache, joined them.

Big Thief

American rockers Big Thief have already thundered their fourth album Two Hands and even got into the list of favorites of the authoritative music magazine Pitchfork. The four-member group was formed in 2016 in Brooklyn. In the same year, their first disc with the self-explanatory name Masterpiece was released, which was very generously received by the audience and critics.

The Marias

The psychedelic-pop group created by Puerto Rican Maria (after whom the band was actually named) in Los Angeles in 2016 unmistakably recognizes the old-school style, the pleasant shade of the lounge. In addition, the group has very extraordinary music videos shot in a retro style. Their debut album Superclean was released in two parts in 2017 and 2018.

Beabadoobee

The aspiring, but already very popular (8 million views on the YouTube channel!) Filipino-British singer Beabadobee or Beatrice Laus has already managed to make a splash in her native UK – she was nominated for the Rising Star Award and recognized as “Breakthrough of the Year” according to a survey of respected British critics … Now the girl is preparing to take over the rest of the world, it won’t be too long to wait – her debut album will be released at the end of the year.

Inner Wave

Indie rock band Inner Wave was formed in Inglewood, California in 2013. These are five very gifted musicians who combine seemingly incongruous – guitar riffs, hip-hop, and Latin American beats. Their first album, Underwater, released in 2017, is a collection of songs that spanned nearly five years.
