desmond The Songwriter Drops New Single/Video
If you’re looking for something to spice up your summer playlist, desmond the songwriter’s new song “Rise Up” should do the trick. Full of funky reggae rhythms and catchy lyrics, “Rise Up” caught my attention from the first note to the last. The track appears first on desmond’s new album, “Happiness Is Priceless,” starting it off with a confident bang. While staying true to reggae roots, tinged with dancehall, “Rise Up” has a more modern sound, setting it apart from similar music. desmond has created a sound that is categorical, but all his own.

desmond the songwriter’s album, “Happiness Is Priceless,” debuted on the Nielsen SoundScan Reggae Chart and the South Florida Reggae Chart. Pop Magazine put desmond’s album at number 44 on their list of top 50 albums of 2020, ranking ahead of Taylor Swift’s. This same list includes artists like Alicia Keys, John Legend, and Gregory Porter. Pop Magazine also nominated him for an Emerging Artist 2021 award. Previous to his music career, desmond played lead roles in Jamaica’s LTM National Pantomime at the famous Ward Theatre. He also did cabaret performances on Jamaica’s North Coast hotel circuit and worked as the first administrator of the performing rights organization, the Jamaica Association of Composers, Authors and Publishers, Ltd (JACAP).
“Rise Up” speaks to a lot of us, people who grind away at work, thinking it’s the only way. The chorus lends itself to reminding you that you can “rise” above your situation if you believe in yourself. desmond sings about beating drums and being on stage allowing him to feel like he’s “about to rise up.” His joy is evident through his words and that gives the song some good authenticity. I feel like “Rise Up,” and desmond the songwriter, are definitely going somewhere. He has a talent for writing memorable lyrics and tunes. Even after one listen, you’ll find yourself a little happier, and most likely humming the chorus.
Along with “Rise Up,” desmond the songwriter’s new album “Happiness Is Priceless” contains nine other tracks, all of the same craft and caliber. The album explores the disparity in the distribution of wealth in the world, and what people will do based on the kind of access to wealth they have or don’t have. Songs like “Affluenza,” “Kiss and Sell,” and “Hiding My Car,” all tell stories about people with different amounts of wealth and resources and the choices they have made. Alongside his own massive talent, desmond collaborated on the album with some big names in music, such as Dean Fraser, Courick Clarke, Mikey Bennett and Sidney Mills. Every song is extremely listenable and polished, it is a solid piece of art. desmond the songwriter is definitely an artist to keep an eye on. On his website it say he “wants to be a global superstar one day,” and that goal may be within his reach now.
