“BAD SPELL” is the exciting new release from Blue By Nature founders Karen Lawrence and Fred Hostetler. The song, written by Lawrence, is a follow up to their 2018 “Best of Live” release, as well as 2019’s single, “I Couldn’t Help But Love You”.
Both artists have a huge following and paved the way for this new beefed up guitar version of a favorite track from the 1998 acoustic LP, “Hard Daze“. On this new arrangement, the track has the luxury of added electric guitar tracks by Hostetler and Tony Saracene, supporting Lawrence’s dynamically emotive vocal as well as the stinging lead guitar performance of the late Brad Ayers.
Fueled by Lawrence’s rich song writing skills, powerful vocals and feisty stage presence, Blue By Nature’s guitar-based blues sound secured a solid core of faithful followers throughout the 1990’s across the USA, and has continued to appeal to blues lovers through perpetual internet exposure, including interviews, performances and airplay. This new release is sure to please both new and old fans. as of June 6th this track is now available on all streaming platforms.
Fred Hostetler says “This is one of our favorite Blue By Nature songs. It is a mid tempo bluesy ballad that delivers a stunning and powerful vocal performance by Karen and a great track with trademark Blue By Nature rhythm guitars and stinging leads that complement Karen’s evocative singing.” and we could not agree more. if you recall, our review of “BAD SPELL” a short time ago when the news first broke, we knew this track would gain momentum fast, the YouTube video alone has had over 48,000 views and growing!
Available for streaming and downloading at Amazon, Apple Music, YouTube, Spotify, and nearly everywhere online now.

IN OTHER NEWS / COMMENTARY
Fred Hostetler’s FRED’S Blue Chair Blues, an album which is a series of tracks and the artist’s personal favorite works is also making some fans hearts a flutter. Fred’s style on this album is relaxed and much in the way of the old folk and blues heroes of his inspiration. I have often reflected on Fred’s music as that of the legendary Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger. the station of the American Folk Singer is that of a bard, to tell the stories of the past, while bringing the words to life, as in the video selected Taming The Wolf, there is a haunting chill when he softly coos a howl on the end of the chorus.
In much of Fred Hostetler’s other songs there is also the voice of social consciousness and a revolutionary’s call to action on the side of peace, understanding and civil rights. Fred Hostetler is a musical treasure that brings us solace in these troubled times.
