Exclusive Interview with Wheeler Del Torro

Hello! Thank you for chatting with me today!

Hi, how are you! I’m happy to be out of the house and seeing people enjoy their lives.

Tell me about what you have been working on recently!

I’m the front man for a band called Beautiful Thieves. We have a full-length self-titled album coming out in the fall. Until then, I’m on tour with Chairmen of The Board as their DJ and musical guest. I also just started hosting my pop-up restaurants Maroon and Cafe Zanzibar again since closing due to COVID. So, things are really busy!

Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

As a producer, I have a very eclectic source of musical influences. Some of my top influencers have been Chairmen of The Board, Nile Rodgers and Chic, General Public, Doug Gomez, The Cure, and Black Coffee.

What does your creative process usually look like?

I usually watch the group that I’m working or remixing for perform live. I get to meet their fans and learn what they expect from the group. I try and capture the vibe and the energy that the band or DJ has while performing live.

You have your own label that you started in 2020. How did that come about?

Well, back in April 2020 I had just signed a record deal, but everything was up in the air with COVID and the record company basically rescinded their deal. Legally they couldn’t fully rescind, so they told me their plan was to shelf my project indefinitely. That’s just not my personality to sit around and wait so I called my lawyer and had her legally organize my own record company. The first artist I signed was my band Beautiful Thieves.

Any upcoming projects you want everyone to know about?

My band’s album comes out in the fall and I have a series of remixes coming out in the next few months with Chairmen of the Board and Kenny Bobien.

Please let everyone know where they can keep up with you and your music!
