The Queen of Love Songs has brought forth a shimmering, smiling, laughing love song that is irrepressible.  It is the best thing she has done in the  8 years I have known and followed her, and that includes some of her classics like “I Love You Madly” and “Crazy Love”.

With a wink and a grin, “You” blossoms like the Arboretum at Golden Gate Park in spring, sprouting  bright, happy colors into your ears and reminding your heart  of the energy of love .  Propelled by a snappy drum rhythm, sophisticated arranging, and the joy of romance – her trademark- and her voice, so clean, so personal, so right, “You” takes Diaz to a new level.

Diaz says  about the song that it is   “ about the version of me that was so happy, discovering herself. And then COVID, the girl changed and she still so happy, discovering herself.”  In the lyrics, she tells us she never knew I  could be so bold. But the reveal is she has come to terms with herself and bold beautiful queer love. And the result is happiness.

The change is evident in the song and in the girl. If you are a fan of Diaz you have followed her full transformation, from a beautiful Latina with long brown tresses to a beautiful short haired blond bubbling with energy and songs.  The video for “You” was shot before her visual transformation, but the musical evolution is evident in its tempo, phrasing and lyrics.

Written with her longtime partner Carolyn Cardoza,  plus Juan Alejandro, Jimenez Perez, Mario Damian Jimenez Perez,  and produced in Mexico city by pop producers Alejandro and Demian Jimenez, and executive produced by the Queen of Song Carla Morrison, the synth pop love ballad keeps her queer lovesong soul while it  is on top of the leading edge of  the rising wave of synth pop moving through playlists and downloads worldwide. Brilliant music, brilliant lyrics, brilliant production.

But most important, “You” just makes you happy.

“You” is the second release from her forthcoming album Lovers and Friends. It can be streamed/downloaded on all major platforms.  Video on YouTube.
