Exclusive Interview with sora

Hi sora! Thanks for being here! Tell us a little about what you’re up to.

Heyhey! Thanks so much for having me, glad to be here. Right now I’m preparing for my next music video shoot, as well as general planning for my upcoming releases. My current musical project, VOL.24, isn’t a traditional album but a single-a-month project, and I just released my latest single, “Baby Blues”, the Friday after Thanksgiving. My next single, “Body Party”, is a high-energy upbeat club banger that’s going to drop on New Year’s Eve, and it’ll be the first song in my discography that will feature another artist. I got my drag mom Laveau Contraire and my burlesque sister Synamin Vixen on the track, and it’s bound to hype you up for whatever occasion you got planned.

What has been the biggest “pinch me” moment of your career thus far?

One of my singles, “Sugar Pop”, got a placement on the official TIDAL New Arrivals: Global Pop playlist earlier this year, and I’m still screaming over it to be honest. Seeing it in between the latest RuPaul’s Drag Race UK song and the Kylie Minogue x Years & Years collaboration felt so surreal to me.

What could you give a 40-minute presentation on without any preparation

beforehand? 

Do I have only 40 minutes for the presentation? Hahaha. I’d probably have to go with my main girls, K-Pop girl group LOONA. There’s a whole backstory behind their debut, as well as the presentation of their music while the predebut project was going on, and I have so many thoughts on it all. Damn, I almost just started going into the spiel right here and now hahaha.

Top 3 things on your bucket list…

1. Major tour (world tour would be great but let’s work our way up there. That being said, lemme perform in Taiwan please) 2. Met Gala appearance (or really any major red carpet event where I can get all dressed up and feel my oats. I’ll also take modeling in a designer fashion show)

3. Should I also aim for an EGOT? You know what let’s do it, EGOT it is

Is there a song you would like to cover? If so, what song? 

I will sing almost anything to be quite honest haha. A song that I’ve really loved from discovering it earlier this year is “Your Name Engraved Herein”, which is a Taiwanese song and the official theme song for the movie of the same name. There are also a few Japanese songs that I’d love to sing, since I grew up listening to a lot of J-Pop, like “Sakurairo Maukoro” by Mika Nakashima.

Do you have any hidden talents?

If you asked my best friend (and longtime collaborator, Sam Morel), he would probably tell you it’s this weird way of being so connected to current events in pop culture except for some select moments that I didn’t know about until he brings it up. Which is true. Another hidden talent would be picking up languages easily but only retaining a few words from each of them that I’m not already fluent in.

What is inspiring you right now? 

My friends. I have so many friends who are making amazing moves and hitting it big time, and I’m so so so proud of all of them. Plus, not only is it great to see my friends succeed, it also motivates me to do my best and push myself to go further.
