Exclusive Interview with JoZie

When did you first know you wanted to become a musical artist? What was the first song you ever wrote?

I knew I wanted to be an artist and songwriter from the time I was eight years old. I wrote poems before I started thinking that I actually could turn them into songs. I wrote my first song, that I thought was decent, at fifteen. It was called, “Feelin’ Blue”.  Flying home from NYC, I didn’t want to leave. After writing that song, words sort of flew out of me.

Who are some of your top 5 musical influences?

Kelly Clarkston, Rhianna, Mariah Carey, Stevie Nicks, Whitney Houston

What’s in your IPOD this week?

Oh! Well, a lot of different music! Everything from Alison Krauss and Robert Plant to Selena! Definitely have some Gloria Estefan, Celine Dion, and Alessia Cara.  Of course I have some Demi Lovato, AC DC, Aerosmith, Beethoven…I love a wide variety.  Variety helps with inspiration!

How’s the music scene in your locale?

Due to COVID, it’s alright. We are surviving. Nashville is Music City and I’m so proud to live in a place that is filled with incredible musical artists, songwriters, and people who want to see everyone succeed. Nashville is a place for all types of artists to fulfill their dreams. From downtown, Music Row, Printers Alley, to Full Moon Pickin Parties-music is everywhere! Nashville is a beautiful musical place!

What do you like most about playing live?

Playing live is my favorite! The audience drives me. To know I have the chance to make people smile, dance, sing—take them away from their day-to-day lives…make them feel better than when they walked into that concert hall—there’s no better feeling. It’s an honor to perform!

Is there a song on your latest CD release here that stands out as your personal favorite, and why?

“My Lucky Song”! Everything about this song screams happiness, a new chapter, a new life, and believing in love.

What’s the best concert you’ve been to?

Gwen Stefani in Vegas! One of the coolest shows I’ve ever been to!

If you could meet, play a gig, co-write a song, have dinner, have a drink with any band or artist (dead or alive) who would it be?

There’s sooo many! But today, it would be Celine Dion!

What are your goals for the future?

Keep working hard. Keep writing, performing, fueling my musical passions. Enjoy life and plan for surprises!
