David D’Alessio releases new single “Nowhere Else I Wanna Be”
With summer 2022 right around the corner, Covid out of the daily headlines, and pandemic-weariness eclipsing pandemic-panic, we’re ready for it. Like most of us, the longtime-NYC based artist turned 180 degrees and now just wants to stop thinking about all that heavy stuff and break free. “Nowhere Else I Wanna Be” takes us along for the fun, carefree and infectious ride. The song is a high energy pop/rock anthem that unabashedly draws musical inspiration from The Chainsmokers, Sheryl Crow and The Beach Boys while painting hopeful images of an endless summer and being “young forever, baby.” It’s a cross-decades production with musical influences from the 60’s to the 90’s while sitting firmly in the current moment.
This song has the energy and the love of life that we need right now, taking us on an evening out and making it possible for us to laugh again. Too long now have we been couped up in our shells, D’Alessio gives us a summer to look forward to, and gives us hopes for good times and cool breezes on a summer’s night.
D’Alessio wraps the jangly, dreamy opening verse with “We own the beach when the sun goes down/And we’re never gonna leave,” then explodes into the relentless joy of the powerhouse chorus: Waiting all year for summer, wild and crazy. . .Nowhere else I wanna be / Under a big umbrella, warm and Sunkissed. . .” He loads Verse 2 with lush vocal harmonies and more glorious beach imagery – throwing frisbees, pretty tan lines, salty lips, Corona with fresh lime and of course, thank you Brian Wilson and Mike Love, “California Girls be bringing out the sunshine.” When he sings, “I never want to leave,” he’s speaking on behalf of all of us who want to be, as he says, “young, free, naked and tan” in such a youthful, energetic realm forever.
This is a love song, but not just between two souls, but a love song for living, no politics, no painful imagery, no what’s going on in the world today, just David and his music making us want the stuff of dreams again.
