over 200 songs submitted this week, but there were some really outstanding entries. And I love it when I see a band and then and recommend them. The Tropical Yeah is on today’s HHD

231 songs and albums and videos submitted this week for review

Pambelé, single/video by Captain Planet and Jimena Angel.  From the introductory baseline, to the trumpet-led finale, this is not only a fun tropical dance Afro Latin funk tune with Jimena Angel’s powerful voice, but a clever and very sophisticated arrangement full of earworms and happy notes. Put it on repeat and dance through the day.  Stream on Spotify. Video on YouTube.

Tinseltown, single by Binx. Hollywood is not all it is cracked up to be. We all know that, but BINX tells us what real success and happiness is, even in the belly of the beast. Tinseltown is both classic BINX and a new twist on her sound with very dreamy slick production and complex rhythms. A fun song with a message.  Stream on Spotify, Apple Music YouTube Music, Amazon Music.

Try Me, single/video by Jorja Smith. The long-awaited return is here and it is worth the wait Jungle drum-heavy, compelling, a little arrogant in a good way, she feels the power she has and puts it into music. You have to listen and watch to get the full impact, but it is stunning. Stream on all major platforms and video on YouTube.

El Álbum, EP/album by La Brega. I gave this a longlisted because of the lineup – Miraya (who I just last week in Guadalajara with Flor de Toloache) Xenia Rubios, Ana Mcho, Balún, ÍFÉ and of course, it’s from La Brega: The Puerto Rican Experience in Eight Songs podcast. This album rocks with electro-cumbia, love songs, Afro-topical beats, humor, female power, and more. Stream on all major platforms. Spanish.

Andamos Ready, by The Tropikal Yeah. This band knows how to rock a crowd and make it happy. Young, high-energy cumbia led by rapid-fire drumming and a move-itg along led guitar backed by trumpets and a slide trombone. Take them home for a party and just have fun. Stream on Spotify. Spanish.

Me Afectas, single by Jessy Bulbo . Jessy Bulbo’s music can be described as a blend of punk rock and alternative rock, with influences from Mexican folk music and electronic music. Her music often features distorted guitar riffs, energetic drum beats, and lyrics that touch on topics such as politics, social issues, and personal experiences. Overall, her sound is raw, edgy, and rebellious, with a unique Mexican twist. Spanish. Stream on all major platforms.
