Defying Norms: Megan Soo’s Vibrant Fusion of K-pop, Hollywood Stardom, and Social Activism
Megan Soo, an Asian-Canadian multi-hyphenate, is making her mark in the world as an actress, singer, and content creator. Born in Toronto to parents hailing from Korea and Trinidad and Tobago, Megan’s unique blend of cultural influences resonates through her musical genre, which she dubs K-Hall, a vibrant fusion of K-pop with the infectious rhythms of dancehall and soca. Her foray into film began with her role in xXx: Return of Xander Cage, featuring Vin Diesel, while her notable work includes playing Sam in the series Weirdos. Unwavering in her mission, Megan aims to challenge the casting norms and stereotypes in the film industry. Her response to the scarcity of auditions for diverse roles was to pen, direct, and star in TALES as Isabelle, a feature film she masterminded for herself. She consistently produces engaging, humor-laden content for her followers on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, offering them a sneak peek into her life and career.

Megan, a multiracial powerhouse, boasts of her Korean, Chinese, and Trinidadian heritage. She first found her passion in dance and engaged in it competitively throughout her youth, honing her skills in Acro, Jazz, Bellydance, and Bollywood. Her upbringing in Toronto inspired her YouTube tagline, “Mixed Chick from the 6”.
Her notable works span across various platforms including the Sex/Life TV Series, Foe, Weirdo TV Series, Tales TV Series, Christmas on 5th Avenue TV Movie, I’ll Take your Dead, The Machine TV Movie, Mary Kills People TV Series, and xXx: Return of Xander Cage.

When asked about her journey, Megan shares that her career began inadvertently after high school, when she stumbled upon background acting while searching for a job to fund her travel plans. One day on set was all it took for her to be smitten by the world of acting. She then embarked on her journey, participating in auditions, honing her acting skills, and eventually landing her first role in Return of Xander Cage. Her passion for performing, sparked during her stint in beauty pageants, Miss Asia Canada, and the international Miss SuperTalent in Seoul, where she represented Trinidad & Tobago, led her into the realm of music.
Megan candidly shares that her journey was fraught with challenges. Coming from a strict Asian household that wished for her to pursue traditional careers, her decision to quit her job in Kinesiology and to dedicate herself to the arts was a major leap of faith. She worked multiple jobs to fund her dreams and eventually made the bold move to LA in search of bigger opportunities, despite the difficult visa process and the cost involved.
As an Asian/Caribbean Canadian, Megan Soo aims to bring change in the entertainment industry. She is dedicated to advocating for Asian and mixed-race artists, striving to ensure their voices are heard, appreciated, and given a chance to shine. Her goal is to carve a path for multiracial creators, proving that if conventional roles don’t suit you, then it’s time to create your own.
