Gambling and rap music: what do they have in common?

It would seem that music and gambling are on opposite sides of entertainment culture, and the relationship between them is very distant. However, upon closer examination, one can notice surprising parallels between them.

In the lyrics of their songs, many rap musicians quite often describe luxurious images in which wealth and personal achievements prevail. This can be explained by his ambitions, craving for success, and desire to plunge into a beautiful life. They quite often use money symbols as an allegory for their goals. Gambling entertainment presented in casinos, including poker, becomes a metaphor for risk and the opportunity to double their achievements.

This theory can be confirmed by the example of the famous rap singer Jay-Z. He sings in the famous song “Empire State of Mind” that ” I’m up at Brooklyn, now I’m down in TriBeCa. Right next to De Niro but I’ll be hood forever”. The rapper’s reference was to the famous New York City neighborhood that is home to the famed gambling establishment Tribeca Grand Hotel. This bundle emphasizes his success and saturates the text with an atmosphere that combines luxury and gambling.

Similar parallels can be seen in the work of the artist Drake. Noteworthy is his track “Started From The Bottom,” in which he talks about his path to the throne: “Started from the bottom, now we’re here…”. This story has a humble beginning, but the much-desired summit is reached through hard work and a lot of luck.

You can also find similar parallels outside of this musical genre. For example, in the popular song “Poker Face” by Lady Gaga, she sings that “he can’t read my poker face .”In this case, a parallel can be drawn to the player’s control of the situation during poker rounds.

Sure, some fans have shown concern about famous singers mentioning gambling in their songs. But, to be honest, after listening to Jay-Z, hardly anyone will go looking for free spins no deposit list, hoping to get bonuses and play in casinos. Therefore, these concerns are unnecessary.

Surprisingly, you can see unexpected parallels between gambling entertainment and rap music.

With a closer comparison, you can see unexpected parallels. Motives of wealth and risk are clearly traceable in the work of many performers. Symbols of money and gambling become a kind of allegory of their aspirations. Usually, they accompany a rather risky lifestyle on the way to long-awaited success. Examples of foreign rappers and quotes from their songs clearly demonstrate these parallels.
