IndieShout Out: Aunt Cynthia’s Cabin

San Diego-based psych-rock band called Aunt Cynthia’s Cabin and just dropped a 7″ single, “On The Mountain”. The B-side is a fuzz- and reverb-laden psychedelic cover of Neil Diamond’s “Solitary Man”. Here are links to listen:

Originally a concept for a desert-landscape murder mystery novel set in 1970s Southern California, Aunt Cynthia’s Cabin is the creation of San Diego musicians Anthony Defreitas and Brennan Justice.

Writing and recording together in several now-defunct projects, the two began writing material for Aunt Cynthia’s Cabin with a vibe in mind that they themselves have described as “driving 90 miles an hour through the middle of the desert with the windows down”. Incorporating elements of 1970’s American classic rock, 60’s surf, modern psych and garage, the duo recorded two songs out of their garage in San Diego in January 2018 for their debut single, “On The Mountain”, along with a cover of Neil Diamond’s “Solitary Man” as the B-Side.

Aunt Cynthia’s Cabin self-released the On The Mountain 7″ in February 2018.
