Avvi Exclusive Interview

You just released a new single – congrats! Do you get nervous before you release music or are you more excited?

Thank you! Honestly, I tend to get nervous as I am going through the editing process of my music and submitting my songs to my distributor, mostly because I want everything to be perfect (it’s the Type A attorney in me). However, the two-week lead-up to a release is when I become excited!

If you had to – how would you classify your music?

I would classify my music as indie alt-pop with some pop-rock undertones, particularly in my newest single, “Top Shelf,” and my upcoming EP, Indulge Me.

What is the best concert you have been to? What do you like most about playing live?

I have seen a lot of incredible concerts, but the one that stood out to me the most was seeing Tori Amos perform in Nashville, TN, at the Ryman in 2014. You could hear a pin drop because everyone was captivated by her performance. That is how powerful Tori is as an artist. She can enthrall an audience, and it was incredible to be part of that experience. She gave me goosebumps.

As far as playing live, I love connecting with people through my music and feeding off of the crowd’s energy. There’s something so raw and electric with live performances!

How have you evolved as an artist over the last year?

Working on my first EP this year has challenged me to experiment with my style and different sounds. Releasing a collective group of songs is much different than releasing a single. Creating my EP has allowed me to really convey my artistic sound. It has been fun and exciting to see it all come together!

Musically, who are you listening to and enjoying right now?

Lately, I have been jamming out to Dominic Fike. He is very talented, and I am looking forward to his new album dropping in July.

Final – SILLY! – Question: Which one item of food is always in your refrigerator?

I always have half & half in the fridge—it is a staple in our house! I used to drink my coffee black, but now I prefer my coffee with a bit of cream. I will say I am a religious coffee drinker, and it is a bad day if I do not have my coffee first thing in the morning—my husband can attest to that!
