HOT HALF DOZEN 2/20/24

Over 300 songs and albums submitted, so this was hard. I gravitated toward nefw artists, with half from Latin America. But I could not resist the Lebanese rocker/blueswoman Amanda Abiziad

Introducing new music and rising artists from around the world

324 submissions over the past two weeks

Khatiran &Shabban single by Amanda Abizaid. Going back to her Lebanese roots, this iconic blues rocker brings us an ethereal, sensual, melodic, almost spooky song in Arabic and English. A heavenly voice that soars among the mid-eastern drums and rhythms. Astonishing.  Stream on Spotify. English version at  https://amandaabizaid.com/

Bailarin, single by La Yegros . La Yegros, La Yegros, the Argentine Queen of “Nu Cumbia,”    and the women and men of her band  know how to combine Latin rhythms with loving melodies and muted excitement. You will  swing and sway to this whether you are dancing, or sitting down and just listening. They are so good.  Spanish. Stream on all major platforms.

The Loudest Thing, single by Kris Angelis with Shaun Jacobs. Starts gentle, like Kris herself, and then explodes into an anthem with enthusiasm, energy, emotions – like Kris herself.  Addictive, inspiring, powerful. Stream on all major platforms.

El Silencio , single by cKovi. Soft, moody, distant yet intimate, this rising Mexican singer  manages to tell you her story while caressing your ears and your imagination. Remarkable. Spanish. Stream on Spotify.

Vas a Saber, single by La Zorras Zapata. A  project of Nuria, a multidisciplinary artist from Lima, Peru . Her music -like her art – is sensory and unpredictable, but with a beat that moves you gently along. Loop-station, choruses, breaths and sequences form rhythmic patterns with  a voice that is as soft as it is powerful and disruptive as it is mesmerizing. Spanish. Stream on Spotify.

Last Christmas, single by Terra Lightfoot. No, it is not a Christmas song. The Canadian  singer, songwriter and guitarist who usually employs a potent blend of roots rock, blues-rock, power pop, country-rock and Americana defaults on this one to memories,  nostalgia, and tuneful sadness. And it magically works. Stream on all major platforms .
