SAMFIRE the Suffolk-based alternative artist Phoebe Mallinson is set to release her new single ‘Muse‘ via AWAL on Fri 14th Feb with a focus date set for 21st Feb 2025.
SAMFIRE reveals her most commercial song to date, evoking the splendour of KATE BUSH, the urgency of THE LAST DINNER PARTY and the pop sensibilities of CHARLI XCX. ‘Muse’ is the latest single taken from her upcoming 3rd EP: ‘The Edge Of Everything’ and mixes vulnerable lyrics with ethereal alt pop hooks. ‘Muse’ follows, ‘The Edge Of Everything’, ‘Helter Skelter’ and ‘I’m With You’ all of which were supported on BBC Introducing Suffolk & Norfolk.
Having been tipped by Introducing as ‘One To Watch’ and following a rammed, ‘double capacity’ live set last year for BBC
Introducing at Latitude, SAMFIRE is gearing up for a seismic shift in appeal with her new release,’Muse‘. SAMFIRE contrasts the sour punch of sickness with the sweet relief that a lover can offer as she jumps from verse to chorus in this punchy, alt-pop earworm. Dramatic, energetic and irresistibly catchy, ‘Muse‘ pushes further into the art-pop space. Releasing on Valentines Day, SAMFIRE throws herself behind the romance of the song. Says Phoebe, “Muse is melodramatic and mushy. A pop song that contrasts the sour punch of sickness with the sweet relief that a lover can offer. In it, you get the sorry-for-herself girl who wrote it without filter or change. There is no need to dig too deep, I chose to keep it simple and raw. But I love the song’s confidence, honesty and messiness, something that runs through all the songs on this upcoming EP .”
Of her artist name Phoebe says, “Although I was born in London, Suffolk is where I was living when my musical career was born. My name, SAMFIRE, was taken from the samphire that grows along the Suffolk coast. Its connection to the sea reflects my own – happiest when I am in water or when I am singing – and the natural drama of the coast captures the essence of the
music I want to create.”
