After releasing the second single “Give In” in January 2025, Surabaya alt-punk unit, Firstrate finally released the third single “Last Throw” on March 25, 2025 on all DSP pages and Haum Entertainment’s Bandcamp. This third single is the 7th track from Firstrate’s upcoming LP, Passage of Time. Still with a fictional character aged 22-27 who was created for Firstrate’s upcoming LP Passage of Time. Bagus is someone who is optimistic and encouraging. On the negative side, he is someone who likes to keep his feelings to himself and is indecisive. It can be said that he is a character who has an ambivert nature. This is reflected in his daily life which he sometimes thinks is good or bad. In the single “Last Throw” the main theme raised is the struggle to find hope and purpose amidst conflict and uncertainty.
Previously, the protagonist, Bagus, received good news about a good opportunity. It turned out that after the opportunity was taken, Bagus did not take advantage of the moment well so that he received a lot of opposition. After the mistake that Bagus made until finally being opposed by many parties, he was “down” but finally became optimistic again to get up and move forward without giving up. This is made clear by the lyrics in the interlude, “Just give me one more time! // Climbing up into the light”. After that, Bagus was more enthusiastic to search for the light for the better. He rushed to shine and not hide in a cave. This is also explained in the backing vocals that say, // I’ll rise again.. // from time-to-time // I’ll walk the line // until the end!
The production of the single “Last Throw” also coincided with other songs that began in November to December 2023 which were recorded at Self Recs Studio with Engineer, Mixing, Mastering this single by Alwan Hilal. The Passage of Time album itself has been completed since 2024 and is now undergoing the post-production process.
