Mothers Daze- Let it Speak to You as it Did to Me

In this spoken word, listen to how she (Sun8hine) speaks about the “daze” in the life of a BLACK mom. She’s recognizing what so many of us seem to forget and take for granted life-ing from a black woman’s perspective. I love how she doesn’t focus on whether she’s a single black female, she speaks about just being a black mom. Or maybe, she’s not speaking of just black motherhood at all.

Maybe the motherhood she speaks about permeates through all cultures no matter of color as all mothers go through the “Daze” sometimes. Being a mother can just be one of or even a series of “Mothers Daze”.  She speaks of how in motherhood we often forget to take care of ourselves first, staying hyper-focused on kids and family, making sure everyone else is okay.

As a Master Poet , SUN8HINE never fails to provide the reader with the imagery needed to bring the reader into the world she is creating. This poem takes me to the time in my life when I was the single mom. I felt every word touch certain parts of my life. It makes me realize that I was never alone in this struggle.
