Today, Hamilton Leithauser receives his first Emmy Award nomination in the category of “Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music” alongside Dominic Lewis for their work on Apple TV+’s “Your Friends & Neighbors” main title theme song: “The Joneses”, out now via Platoon. The song features vocals from Hamilton Leithauser and was written by series composer Dominic Lewis and Leithauser. “The Joneses” aptly sets the tone for the show, executive produced by and starring Jon Hamm and starring Amanda Peet and Olivia Munn, about a financial titan (Hamm) who suddenly finds himself divorced and jobless, and resorts to robbing his wealthy neighbors to stay afloat. “You can’t keep up with The Joneses” warns Leithauser in the song’s lyrics, and indeed we soon find out that the secrets and affairs hidden behind the wealthy facades might be more dangerous than our protagonists had ever imagined. “Your Friends & Neighbors” is available to stream on Apple TV+

“Our composer Dominic Lewis wrote ‘The Joneses’ after seeing our cuts of the show, and we all loved it so much that the musical themes in it also became part of our score,” shares series creator and executive producer Jonathan Tropper. “It just seems to capture the darkness and irony but also the fun heightened nature of the show.” After a friend took him to see The Walkmen play, Tropper put their music back into rotation on his playlists, and the idea struck him to invite Leithauser to collaborate with Lewis and sing on the song. “Hamilton’s got such an interesting and unconventional voice – it’s raw and epic and intimate all at the same time. When we were thinking about who should record Dom’s tune, I started to imagine the song in Hamilton’s voice, and I thought it might be a great match. There’s a melodic weariness to it, a perfect imperfection that I thought captures the angst and irony of the song and, by extension, the show.”

As Leithauser worked on the song, he adjusted some of the lyrics and suggested changes to the melodic interpretation. “Watching him and Dominic in the studio together was really exciting,” shares Tropper, “because I got to see the song morph from its original form into something different. Dominic’s original composition and harmonies are all still there, but he and Hamilton combined their different sensibilities into something new, and the song became edgier and more lyrical.”

“This guy is dumbstruck,” shares Leithauser in discussing the song. “His house-of-cards materialistic lifestyle has just collapsed, and he never saw it coming. He’s suddenly alone in this bizarre world of extravagance. The lyrics juxtapose images from inside of these Connecticut mansions with his utter loneliness and disbelief.”

he 77th Primetime Emmy Awards broadcast will take place on September 14, 2025 at 8pm ET on CBS. The Creative Arts Emmy Awards, which honors the artistic and technical achievements categories, will be held on September 6 and 7, then edited to air September 13 on FXX.
