Finding companionship is one of the many goals people set for themselves. Achieving that goal doesn’t come easy. It entails breaking yourself down and building yourself back up to support a partner. Sometimes no matter the effort, it just can’t work between two people, and they must go their separate ways. That moment of realization that a relationship is going to end, causes one to think of the good memories the connection created. This is the topic explored in Chris Erasmus’ new release “We Had It Made.”
He begins setting the scene by reflecting on a past where him and his partner had a “magical touch,” but as time continued, her spark began to fade. It leaves Erasmus’ questioning how the relationship arrived at this destination of despair, and how his partner knew they were unsatisfied. He comes to the realization that a conversation is needed to decide the fate of their connection. The thought of this chapter possibly ending leaves Erasmus thinking about the positives of this relationship. Eventually telling his partner that they had it made throughout their time together. Erasmus goes as far to say that the bad memories were worth it to him because love felt like it should, and he would never trade it for anything else.
His soft vocals paired with emotional piano chords and guitar strumming is enough to leave any listener reflecting on their own past. “We Had It Made” is a reminder that even when love doesn’t last, the memories created from that love can still be cherished. Erasmus captures the balance between gratitude and sorrow, a topic that will resonate with anyone who has loved, lost, and learned to appreciate the journey.
