For years, Thisis50 has been a staple in hip-hop media, known for breaking news, viralinterviews, and unfiltered commentary that reflected the pulse of the culture. Closely associated with Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, the site built a reputation as a go-to destination for fans looking for raw, immediate access to hip-hop conversations as they happened.
That legacy was abruptly disrupted in 2024 when Thisis50.com was compromised in a high-profile hack. The breach led to the site being used to promote a fraudulent cryptocurrency scheme, forcing a shutdown and leaving the future of the platform uncertain. While the situation was eventually addressed publicly by 50 Cent, the damage to the original domain was significant, and Thisis50.com never fully recovered.
Rather than letting a culturally important platform disappear, the Thisis50 team made the decision to relaunch under a new domain, officially returning in October as Thisis50s.com with an added “S”. The goal was not to reinvent the brand, but to restore it keeping the spirit of the original intact while updating the technology and design to meet modern standards.
The new site was developed by publicist, record executive, and coder John Kwatakye-Atiko, who was brought in specifically to rebuild the platform from a technical standpoint. While Kwatakye-Atiko does not own or operate Thisis50s.com, his role was central in creating the new digital foundation that allows the site to function securely and efficiently going forward.
“I wanted to make a site that wasn’t too far off from the original, but more modern,” Kwatakye-Atiko said. “Thisis50 has a distinct identity, and it was important to respect that while updating how it looks and works.”
Known in the music industry for his work with major labels and independent artists alike, Kwatakye-Atiko approached the project as both a fan of the culture and a technologist. His background allowed him to translate the needs of the Thisis50 editorial team into a cleaner, faster, and more resilient platform — without stripping away the character that made the brand resonate in the first place.
“I’m very proud of the new site and hope it adopts well with the general public,” he added.
Today, Thisis50s.com stands as a continuation rather than a replacement a familiar voice on a new foundation. The original Thisis50 team remains fully in control of the brand’s direction, content, and editorial voice, while the updated platform positions the site for longevity in a media landscape that demands speed, security, and adaptability.
After a turbulent chapter, the return of Thisis50 under a new domain signals resilience. It’s a reminder that in hip-hop, as in tech, setbacks don’t always mean endings sometimes they’re just the reset before the next era.
