Stripped Down & Spellbinding: Joan As Police Woman Honours “Real Life” Through Riveting Performances

New York City’s Joan As Police Woman returns with a pair of mesmerizing live videos — “Anyone” and “The Ride” — offering an intimate, stripped-down glimpse into her celebrated catalog. These performances kick off The Real Life Anniversary Sessions, a series of videos marking the 20th anniversary of her critically acclaimed debut album, “Real Life”, released via UK independent Reveal Records. It’s Joan at her most raw, emotional, and unfiltered—proof that some songs only get better with age.

Since adopting the moniker Joan As Police Woman in 2004, Joan Wasser has built a reputation as one of contemporary music’s most singular voices. Praised as “the coolest woman in pop” by The Times and “one of the 21st century’s best musicians” by The Economist, Wasser is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist whose genre-defying approach has produced ten original albums, two cover albums, and an anthology of work that continues to inspire. Her music refuses to fit neatly into any box, and that’s exactly why it sticks with you.

Recorded live on November 11, 2025, at The Owl Music Parlor, the videos showcase Wasser at her most magnetic, delivering raw piano-and-vocal performances alongside New York collaborators Will Graefe (guitar and vocals) and Jeremy Gustin (drums and vocals). In transforming “Anyone” from its original 6/8 soul ballad form into something more exploratory and folk-jazz infused, Wasser demonstrates the creative alchemy she and her band have been honing since touring together in late 2024—turning familiar songs into fresh, adventurous interpretations.

A celebrated collaborator, Joan As Police Woman has performed and recorded with countless world-renowned, award-winning artists across genres, from legendary innovators to contemporary icons. She continues to share her talents on stage today, currently performing as a member of Iggy Pop’s touring band, contributing keys and vocals. Whether in the studio or on stage, she’s the secret ingredient that elevates every project she touches.

The celebration isn’t just about the past — Joan will also be hitting the road live and commemorating her groundbreaking debut release in other ways. Fans can experience more of Real Life as Joan hits the stage for her 20th Anniversary Tour. Tickets are available at www.joanaspolicewoman.com/tour
