Guilt Coins are a “Rock & Roll band”– four men split between Essex and London who come together every week to make a noise. The songs recorded for their debut album are the result of endless jams. Each jam different with no preconception of what a Guilt Coins song should sound like and Guilt Coins take their influences from rock and roll, soul, funk and folk. Live, the band takes their music to another level with an electric and blistering energy.

We got to interview Vocalist Chris Jones about the band, and to get some insight as to what they do, when we released the news of their music release a few weeks back, it met with big audience, so we really wanted to do this follow up.
IPM: Chris, what inspires your writing style?
A love of going to see rock and roll bands and occasionally thinking, ‘I wish I wrote that…’
IPM: Tell us about the group and its chemistry.
Scott Lewis is on drums, Marc Sephton on bass and Cliff Fitzpatrick on guitar. We enjoy playing together. We enjoy each other’s company. Much of the music comes from just making stuff up in the studio, competing with each other to make the loudest possible noise and then it’s a process of cutting out the fat until we end up something we all dig.
IPM: What are or were some of the challenges for you in producing or performing while keeping true to your vision of your music.
The challenge is to make sure we’re making music for ourselves first and nobody else. We’ve been doing this long enough to know when that’s happening.
IPM: Tell us about some of your recent shows / performances- anything that stands out, or is there anything that you feel makes for an exciting highlight.
The stand out show is yet to come – 1st June in Milan. It’s our drummer’s stag do that night so we’re partying doubly hard, Party round ours afterwards.
IPM: Tell us more about the upcoming Album and any other new material coming out soon
Our debut album Keep The Kick is out on 1st June. We’re playing the Blues House in Milan on 1st June and Paper Dress Vintage in London on 13th June.
IPM: Any “strange tales” or things that may have happened during a show that seemed too weird to be true?
Marc bashed me on the head pretty hard with his bass during the last song of a gig once. It was a particularly “shouty” number. A sight of me screaming the song with blood pouring down my forehead looked like something from a horror movie. Good times.
IPM: Where do you see your music going, where would you like to be in the near future, goals, dreams and passions?
We see a Quadruple album of cosmic speed funk.
IPM: Anything special you would like our readers to know?
Our music is a joy to the ear holes but you’ll have to buy the album to see if that’s true. Sweat, blood and tears in our live performances.
