1 Charles Edison – In Close (3)
A calm but at the same time sharp piece of electronica with echoes of the funk. Liking this.
2 Papernut Cambridge – The Hobbledehoy (8)
Gare du Nord just keeping putting out great records. Papernut Cambridge are in that great, well, Cambridge tradition of English folk psych sound. This lot don’t know how to make a dud record.
3 Baked Beans – Aw Yeah But Nah (39)
More pop psych sounds and great band name and song title too. A well deserved entry.
4 Phantom Power – Bobey (92)
More gentle sounds from, and we quote You Tube, “Brendan Page is a Bay Area solo musician, he plays using a guitar and loop pedal. A really cool guy with some awesome tunes.”
5 Life Pass Filter – Space Cowboy (95)
Another newbie from Gare Du Nord records. Told you they were incapable of releasing a bad record
6 Gaika – Close to the Root (176)
If you check in regularly, you’ll know we are huge Gaika fans. One of many great tunes off his debut. This album is going to be huge. Eventually we have a deserving successor to Tricky.
7 Gazelle Twin – Deep England (243)
GT have been around a while and great to see the sound move towards this wonderful mix of grey November council estate and ever present pastoral England.. amazing. Once again the best music in the world is coming out of the UK. It’s the only advantage of having those evil fuck Tories in charge.
8 DJ Lag – 2 Step Culo (235)
Just out from DJ Lag .. hot hot hot. We just love DJ Lag
9 Saicobab – naa Raa naa (250)
Bonkers Japanese outfit whose stock in trade is drone, raga yoko ono vibe. Strangely compelling.
10 John T Gast – Drith (496)
Quite simply TUNE !!!!!! This would sound so good on a huge soundsystem in a cavernous warehouse. Loving the tune.
