Colette Van Sertima Steps Out Front With the House Anthem “Live For The Moment”

Colette Van Sertima has already written for one of the biggest voices in popular music. In 2004 Tina Turner released “Open Arms,” the lead single from her career-spanning collection All the Best, and the songwriting credit read Martin Brammer, Colette Van Sertima and Ben Barson. The song later found a second life on stage in Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, which carried it to London’s West End and to Broadway. With “Live For The Moment,” Van Sertima puts her own voice at the front of the record and takes it to the dance floor.

The single was written by Van Sertima with producer Porky Paul and released July 10, 2026 on Porky Paul Productions. Its subject is right there in the title. This is a song about optimism and possibility, about noticing your life while it is still happening and making something of the day in front of you. House music has carried that message since its earliest days, and Van Sertima sings it like someone who means it.

Porky Paul’s original mix runs just over five minutes and gives her plenty of room. The production is contemporary house, built to move a crowd, but it never crowds the singer. The vocal stays at the center of the track from start to finish, which is the right call when the person behind the microphone also wrote the words. A songwriter who once handed a lyric about loyalty and comfort to Tina Turner knows how to make a simple sentiment land, and “Live For The Moment” depends on exactly that skill.

The release arrives as a five-track package, and the remixes widen its reach. Ruff Loaderz contribute three versions, a radio remix, an extended remix and a dub, that push the song toward peak-time house and give DJs a cut for every point in the night. Blakk Habit takes it in another direction with a garage remix, trading the four-on-the-floor drive for a shuffling UK swing. Across all five tracks the song holds its shape, because every producer involved left the vocal intact.

That consistency is what makes the record work as more than a club tool. Dance music is full of tracks that treat the singer as one more sound in the mix. Here the singer is the reason the track exists, and each version is a different room for the same performance. Listeners who come for the house mixes and listeners who come for the garage remix are hearing the same writer say the same thing.

For Van Sertima, it is a return to the spotlight on her own terms, as both writer and voice. For anyone who has ever needed a reminder to stop waiting for the right time, the instruction could not be plainer. “Live For The Moment” is available now on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, Tidal and Deezer at bfan.link/live-for-the-moment.
