A former Refugee from Bhutan wins Silver Medal Award

Kiran Biswa, a resident of FNQ, Australia, won a silver medal award for his World Rock Fusion music and Composition of O Warriors! in a well-known International music competition for emerging and indie artists held by Global Music Awards, USA in May – June 2019. Among thousands of submission of music from approximately 72 countries, Kiran is one of the two Australians winning Silver Medal recognition award.

Kiran’s world rock fusion track, O Warriors!, was released in January 2019 and is a master piece of beautiful collaboration of the talented musicians/singers from Australia, USA and India. One of the legendary collaborator is David Hudson an internationally reputed musician from Australia. The track is a unique mix of ethnic and spiritual sounds from the Himalayas to Australian Outback with a wonderful blend of Rock elements.

This track is a beautiful multicultural presentation of unity in diversity. It is a wonderful example of uniting people of different backgrounds through music. The powerful lyrics in language talks about every individual’s strength and says everyone is born as a Warrior.

According to Dr. Felix, Arizona State University, “It is a beautiful blend of ethnic instruments into Rock elements”.

When asked about his outstanding achievement, Kiran said,” I always wanted to share what I have learnt in the refugee camp and how important it is to realize that every individual ,no matter what background they have come from, have strength to face the challenges and move forward. Resilience plays a very important role in one’s life to move forward. This award is a re-assurance to my global message of resilience and hope”.

Kiran has come from a Bhutanese refugee background and has spent 19 years of his life in a refugee camp in eastern Nepal. Now he is a proud Australian.
