Art-Punk Weirdos King Whisker Release Debut EP
King Whisker announces the May 11, 2019 release of their debut 3-track EP, There is no King Whisker. The band will release the EP on all streaming platforms with a solo show and celebration at Atomic in San Diego’s historic Gaslamp district.
Recorded at Santa Monica’s Point Studios,There is No King Whisker captures the energy and wild abandon of the San Diego threepiece in three spicy tracks; I Makey Boom Boom, Octopus, and Wolf is a Woman.
“It feels like we’re on to something tasty here…” says King Whisker’s bass player and harmonist Felix Nunez.
“We knew right away we were putting together something new, wild, and raw the first time we started playing together… It’s a long journey ahead, and we’re really excited to put it out there and see what the world thinks.”
The opening track, and single “I Makey Boom Boom” is the band’s truest punk track, with raucous energy and blisteringly satirical lyrics on the absurdity of the rock and roll persona, and the SoCal stoner/doom obsession with the satanic.
“Octopus,” the EP’s second track, showcases the band’s pop influences and musicality, with chiming guitar work and acrobatic bass line.
The closing track, “Wolf is a Woman,” pays homage to 70s rock outfits like Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin, and the stoner rock music that has poured out of the California deserts since the 1990s.
