“Words” by Basement Revolver has a “Cranberries” feel, a bit of “10 Thousand Maniacs” and a very “funky / soulful” timber to it. I would say the song it is right there with the sweet melodies and robust character of the female fronted bands of yesterday. But, it also has the new and modern kick that makes it unique, as I said it “sounds like” or “Has the feel of” but because I cant fit it into any genre that exists, the band has been said to be “pop” but I would say more “Urban Folk” which is a term I use to describe artists that have a strong message to tell in a manner that invites the listener to want to listen to the music, the words ( no pun intended) and every instrument, note for note exquisite with a warmth of a broken heart that still knows that love is real and exists. it is the song for the lovers of the world, the eternally young and the ones that make life beautiful.

“‘Words’ was written when I was in my last semester of university. I lived downtown and school was up on the mountain and somewhat inaccessible by bus. I was writing my honors psych thesis at the time, as well as many other papers, when it all began to feel meaningless. No matter what I said, in the end, words are just words, they can be stringed together to form something powerful but without context they become as mundane and uncontrollable as one’s commute to and from school. Similarly, a paper is just a paper, a degree is just a degree, and there is so much more to life than the plans and the empires that we build for ourselves.”
