Album Review: CONTROLLED BURN by Paradise Kings

Review by Joseph Timmons: IndiePulse Music Magazine

The Paradise Kings, local to Santa Barbara California has been performing for many years and is currently performing gigs for wineries, corporate events, local venues, private house parties, festivals, opening acts for blues shows and more.

CONTROLLED BURN by Paradise Kings I a collection of tracks that show a wide range of musical talent and with its Blues, Rock and Swing inspirations, Paradise Kings have really knocked this one out of the park. With its powerful percussions, rowdy rhythms, guitar rock backbone and topped with vocals that come from the heart, this band has offered up some tasty tunes.

Paradise Kings fronted by Lead Vocalist Henry Garrett and Vocalist Jan Ingram, is both a bold and naturally combination and whether they sing together or separately, you have to love them both. An example would be the smooth vocal tracks on Butter Me Up, where Jan Ingram pulls a Satin Doll with smokey and saucy temper. In Money Ain’t My Friend, Henry Garrett takes his shots, one after the other, bringing that smokey barroom sound to the venues they perform, and on this album, into your living room.

Not to be outdone, Guitarist Jeff Gring and Bassist Bob Gross keep it flowing with undeniable skill and in perfect measure, George Lambert on Drums sets the beat and with precision lays down the back beat, and often brings the beat forward into the spotlight, then slides it back home.

FAVORITE TRACK: I would take Poor Me, Poor Me, Pour Me Another Drink would be my choice as my top track, the bank brings it in this one, hard, heavy, a rockin’ blues beat and an honest “can’t keep me down” ready to brawl sound.
