CD Review: Love Stallion “Unforgettable Ride”

Inspired by the “big rock” sound of the 1970s and ’80s, rock stars like David Lee Roth and Freddie Mercury, and dynamic bands like Van Halen, Kiss, and Def Leppard, Love Stallion is charging onto the music scene with original glamorous hard rock. The band’s high energy live performances, flamboyant wardrobes of sequins, spandex and leather, and their signature “Sexy Disco Legs” have placed Love Stallion in the spotlight among Denver’s hottest tickets.

This feels like cheating, because there’s nothing I like more, than guys in spandex and with a hairdo that holds together because of the tremendous quantities of hairspray. That said…

Kicking off Love Stallion’s debut album, “Unforgettable Ride” is the rockin’ track, “Slow Release.” If I have only one criticism, it would be that lead singer Aaron Hart’s voice is quite sweet, but perhaps TOO polished. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great voice, but I think it’s missing some of the raw sexual quality many hair metal bands had.  It’s closer to  Stryper than Mötley Crüe. And well, for songs with such innuendo as “Slow Release” or “Ignite the Night” you need a bit more of rough stuff…like when he shouts “Let’s go!” or a bit closer to what happens on “Hide Me Away” or the beginning of “Tinker Toys”.

Of course, I went looking for the ballad because all glam metal bands have the ballad. I was surprised along the way. “Lazy Summer Dream” was almost more Paul Young than glam, and “Valentine” it’s not the archetypal ballad–which is not a bad thing.  Like an AC/DC album, I didn’t find the “ballad.”

If it’s glam metal that you love, then I can say no more…you won’t be disappointed by this album. – Lady Stardust
