IndiePulse Artist Spotlight: Liya
Bulgarian-born, Boston-based singer and songwriter Liya has released her debut EP called ‘Past Lives’. It falls under the pop genre, however it has dance, electronic, rock and folk influences.
Liya developed her love for writing and performing music at a young age. Her musical education began at 6 years old when she started taking private piano and vocal lessons. After graduating high school, Liya moved to Boston to pursue a higher musical education, starting with classical training in University of Massachusetts’ Music program and transitioning to pop/soul in the prestigious Berklee College of Music where she is currently studying Songwriting and Performance under the Professional Music major. Some of the artists she grew up listening to and learning from are Whitney Houston, Beyoncé, Jessie J, Lady Gaga, James Brown, and Alicia Keys.
LIYA writes songs based on her personal experiences; she strives to create art that is there to heal people in their toughest times, as well as uplift them in their happiest of times.
Some of the performance highlights of Liya’s career in the United States include her performances as a soloist with the Brockton Symphony Orchestra for their Holiday Pops Concert in 2016, at the Fashion on Fire gala during Boston Fashion week in 2017 and most recently she was invited as a special guest by the Bulgarian Center of New England to perform her original music, as well as traditional Bulgarian songs for their Bulgarian Liberation Day Concert.
