Wake Up! A Spaceship has landed this Christmas Day

The Artist, known as Spaceship, is not some attention seeking, ultra-modern “flash in the pan” type of would be superstar, but a wholly legitimate artist seeking to not only create innovative music but bless the world with his vocally directed dreams of spiritually assuring music, or at least that’s what this reviewer gets from the tracks on this new album, released today as a Christmas present to a weary world.

The album / EP Wake Up, which is now available on Bandcamp is a stunningly beautiful creation of music and verse, reminiscent of music by George Harrison, Dan Fogelberg and other artists of our past, revived to bring the universal message to us once again. With long established styles and new, vibrant and fresh takes on collaborative stylings, mixing rock, folk, hypno and at times, rap / hip hop vocals, there is something for everyone to love and enjoy. One track that blows the mind is the song Because Science, if only for the sound that his voice emulates is strikingly similar to that of both John Lennon and of Donovan.

Genius… and, like the aptly titled track Courage. there is a strength in his words that is beyond his age, a wisdom that transcends.

As Audio Curator for Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s production company hitRECord, through which his songs The Spaces Between and Of the Future were produced for the Emmy Award-winning TV series Hit Record on TV, Spaceship is a versatile artist whose background also includes graphic design, fine arts, video and film editing above his litany of musical talents.

Twenty years ago, he started to teach himself how to play guitar, and along the way he taught himself how to play many of the instruments featured on his last two albums, Shake Time Loose and As the Head Turns: acoustic guitar, electric guitar, 12-string guitar, bass guitar, piano, drums, keyboard, harmonica, melodica, alto saxophone, maracas, synths, autoharp, tambourine and kazoo.

Spaceship was featured by Jango Music and Radio Airplay as part of their Center Stage Feature in April 2016. His Tiny Desk Concert video was included in NPR’s “Animal Friend’s of the 2016 Tiny Desk Concert”. His songs have also been featured in commercials and online videos, such as the Refinery29 web series Beauty Prep School, which featured his song Sweet Marie Bee.

Aside from his work on hitRECord, curating and editing videos featuring selected music and musical direction, he has mixed and/or scored several short films. Most recently, Spaceship was a composer, lead editor and final audio mixer for the award-winning short film Names on the Wall.
