Julie Elody’s New EP “Queen of Wands” Brings Pop and Dance Together
New Orleans based pop singer-songwriter Julie Elody has recently released “Queen of Wands”, her latest EP. It features a diverse selection of tracks with a wide variety of dance influences. “Bitter Pill” has an undeniable house influence, but has polished pop vocals and soaring summer melodies. “F*** You”’s sound combines two unlikely genres: acoustic pop and trap. The song is largely guitar driven, but its chorus features powerful drums typically seen in trap productions.
Elody says the name “Queen of Wands” comes from a deeply personal place. She says that the summer she made the EP, she felt like she “had to focus on creating balance in [her] life”. When getting her tarot card read by her friend, she kept drawing the “Wand” card. According to Elody, “they represent creative potential, ideas and passion.” This represented her creative process with EP: “getting an idea and seeing it through to the end”, finding balance in her life.
