Artist Spotlight & Review: Novellas Dantes by The Lost Millions

Novellas Dantes, the latest release by The Lost Millions is temperamental, dark and broody collection of tracks that intertwine and create a story that drills down into the mind and runs like a film in an old-time movie theater. A very well written, performed and produced album, taking cues from classic rock rhythms and staying on straight playing. There is a beautifully raw feeling to the music that makes it edgy and brash, yet there is also a very obvious elegance and finish to it, The Lost Millions took their time to make sure this release was a great one.  I would say they are creating a new style or genre, one with more of a “Cinematic” quality, a Grand Revel, definitely music to dream by, a very entertaining, hypnotic and luminescent sound.

The work of this album and its inspiration is based on Edmond Dantes, the falsely imprisoned, vengeful lead character in “The Count of Monte Cristo,” the 19th Century adventure novel by Alexandre Dumas.

The Lost Millions, a four piece high octane unit that’s spent the last few years taking fans on a wild, breakneck journey infused with everything from pop, post-punk, stoner rock and – influenced by the plethora of blues musicians populating Austin – even some psychedelic country blues.

Their new EP, the mysteriously titled Novellas Dantes, is a follow-up to their acclaimed 2017 debut 101, showcasing the tighter than ever chemistry between front man/guitarist Matt Westfield (lead vocals, guitar), Matt’s co-writer, bassist Heath McBurnett, guitarist David Lines and The Lost Millions newest member, drummer Scott Bettersworth.
