JULIANA HATFIELD SINGS THE POLICE MAKES BILLBOARD TOP 200

ALTERNATIVE, INDEPENDENT AND ROCK CHARTS DEBUT
Additional 2020 Tour Dates Announced

Juliana Hatfield Sings The Police has made its Billboard debut on the Top 200 (#63), Alternative Album sales (#9), Independent Sales (#13) and Rock (#15) album charts following its release.

Juliana has announced a month-long U.S. tour dates beginning January 16th. She will perform material from her solo catalog, most recent album of originals Weird (2019) along with select covers from Juliana Hatfield Sings Olivia Newton-John (2018) and Juliana Hatfield Sings The Police.

In a recent interview with Billboard, Hatfield discussed the creative respite she finds in the covers projects. “Whenever I make an album of my own songs, at the end I feel so depleted. I feel like I’ve said everything I have to say and will never write another song. But I don’t want to stop making music. That’s when I go and start looking at other people’s stuff… so I can keep working. Recording covers is like a working vacation. It’s fun, and it also informs my own stuff afterwards.”

Speaking to Rolling Stone, she addressed her process in choosing The Police covers explaining, “The songs I’ve chosen seem to resonate in the present moment.”

In a show of support for the album, The Police posted the YouTube album stream and shared the Grammy.com article “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic: Juliana Hatfield Goes Deep On Her New Police Cover Album” on their website.

The 12-song album produced by Hatfield has received much praise since its release on 11/15:

“One way to assess a covers record is whether its appeal stretches beyond fans of the re-interpreter to fans of the original performers. In the case of Juliana Hatfield Sings The Police, both camps should be pleased… Hatfield usually puts her imprint on the tunes by stripping back some of the gloss and dialing up the darker hues, while keeping the melodies nearly intact and the songs easily recognizable.” – Associated Press

“Like rebuilding an old, beloved Ford, Juliana Hatfield has stripped the songs down to their chassis and then added her own parts to create something new. Sure, it’s a bit wild and wacky, but very charming and tons of fun!” – Magnet Magazine

“[Juliana] goes hard on the anti-fascist side of the Police in her venomously low-fi versions of songs like “Murder by Numbers” and “Rehumanize Yourself.” The highlight: a “Roxanne” delivered with slow, grueling, guitar-grinding empathy.” –Rolling Stone

Juliana Hatfield Sings The Police is available at American Laundromat Records and for stream/purchase on all digital platforms including Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, etc. The latest news and tour dates can be found at https://www.julianahatfield.com/
