Josh Halverson by Josh Halverson (Album Review)

Americana/Folk singer, Texas-native, Josh Halverson, releases newest self-titled album. As one of NBC’s “The Voice” finalist of Season 11, Halverson has gone on to receive two “Artist of the Year” awards and “Best Folk Recording” award. With a smooth, easy-going voice as unique as Halverson’s, it is no surprise he is a crowd favorite.

The 12-track album shares a folk and country theme throughout that gives the audience a relaxed, feel good feeling. The album starts off with good ole country song, “Take Me to Forever.” The track resembles classic country that has been played for years at the Grand Ole Opry. Track four, “Comfort Me,” is a slow tempo, 5-minute song that has you closing your eyes and tapping your foot along to the beat. It almost gives a slight gospel feeling. Following is another long but emotional track, “Crossing That Line,” in which shares a story about love. Each track of the album has a strong sense of the guitar and instruments played in the background pairing perfectly with Halverson’s voice.

Personal favorite, “Mama,” gives that alone in a bar drinking your problems away feeling and has a touch of a female voice mixed in, giving the track an intense romance feeling. A song that could be found being played in a film. If you are a Bob Dylan fan then you will love track, “Thunderbird Sky.” Halverson ended the album with powerful, “Whiskey and You,” a song with a voice and guitar. Resembles country at its greatest. Finally, a bonus track added on, “My Love,” leaves us with a positive note. An acoustic song is a romantic one and gives the audience a happy feeling. This track puts a smile on the face!
