SAMSARA AT 2020 VIRTUAL FRINGE

NYC teens bring rock back to younger generation

Samsara will perform at the 2020 KeyBank Rochester Fringe Festival (Tuesday, Sept. 15 – Saturday, Sept. 26) via rochesterfringe.com  (on Sept. 19th and Sept. 26th.)

This is a FREE show!  Please visit rochesterfringe.com for more information.

Samsara is a 5 member NY alt-rock band and they are all under the age of 19.  They are certainly young but have gained respect and praise from their adult counterparts and have made a name for themselves locally.

Dylan, Charlie, Ben, John, and Brendan became friends when they all met at a neighborhood music school and eventually formed a band.  The boys discovered that they weren’t just doing this for fun, they actually “had something “. The spark was ignited and each of them knew there was no turning back.

They took their show to anyone that would have them. It wasn’t easy to book gigs because of their age and they weren’t taken seriously at first. That is until they saw what Samsara sounded and looked like on stage.  You forget that they are teens.  They are just as professional if not more than most adult bands they play alongside. And they have a ton of experience.  Charlie Lomonaco (17, lead guitarist) once shared the stage with Tom Morello, John 5 and Vernon Reid. Ben Bustamante (16, drummer) played a charity show with Robin Wilson of the Gin Blossoms and comedian Jim Breuer.

Three of the members are School of Rock All-Stars and two of them were finalists for School of Rock on Broadway and auditioned for Andrew Lloyd Webber. They each have something different to offer. So, what does their music sound like?  Think Pearl Jam meets Royal Blood meets Black Sabbath meets Foo Fighters.  You can hear the grunge influence, along with the postmodern alt vibes, and they all are well versed in classic rock, funk, and metal.

— “As young as they are, Samsara is a band that is musically heavier and overall more challenging than their genre contemporaries.” – TunedLoud Magazine (Nov. 24, 2019)

Winter of 2020 they were booked every month through the summer at Arlene’s Grocery, Blackthorne 51, Amendment 18, and Venus in Furs, just to name a few.  Then COVID shut everything down. You know the rest.

Fast forward to now.  The boys finished recording their first EP and are hoping to have it on all major platforms by October 2020.   Samsara is thrilled to be a performer at the virtual Key Bank Rochester Fringe Festival.  .

More about Fringe: Since its debut in 2012, the KeyBank Rochester Fringe Festival has become one of the most successful fringe festivals in the U.S., as well as the largest multi-arts festival in New York State. The 2019 Fringe attracted more than 100,000 attendees to over 665 performances and events – of which 219 were free of charge – in 25+ downtown venues.

Due to COVID-19-related health and safety regulations, 2020’s 12-day festival will be a virtual, online one. It will feature an open-access portion submitted by artists, as well as some safely-enjoyed headline shows curated by the Fringe. The non-profit organization’s overarching mission is to provide a platform for artists to share their ideas and develop their skills, as well as to make arts readily accessible to audiences, while stimulating downtown Rochester both culturally and economically.
