JD & the RetroRyders drop New Single

The retro rocking sound of JD & the RetroRyders continues with the single release of “twoferu” with two new tracks, “The Fire In My Fingertips” and “No Secret” to add to their collection of Power Pop music. The two new songs add some fresh material to their set which is where they really do their best work out of what they have to offer. The stage is where the songs grow, so it would be cool to see them and how these two killer songs translate to the stages when they get back out there after the lockdown is over.

For the record I am falling in love with this band, as they are an absolute pleasure to review. Perhaps you read my last review, regardless I think this band is simply marvelous, but it wasn’t without going in depth and then also looking for more of their music found on all platforms. Then I was able to wrap my head clearly around these songs and give them an opinion. They bring a breath of fresh air to the much-needed staleness of the pop music community in general, and it is one that should be greeted with open arms. JD (Joe DeMeo) is not without great help in completing his rock ‘n roll mission either, his band is second to none and together they’re a solid unit.

This is kind of like getting blind sided when you review a lot of stuff and it’s rare that a true rock ‘n roll band even comes across the desk anymore. That is how it felt once I’d heard enough of JD & the RetroRyders, as if I were being treated to something special for once, so I had better pay close attention.

“The Fire In My Fingertips” is enough to ignite anyone’s inner flames, once it passes between the ears and does a number on all the other senses in the same effort. This song rocks straight out of the gate, singing about going between shows and stopping in Nashville and reflecting while at it. JD goes on o sing about how he’s on a roll, regardless of the rigors, the successes and the excesses from a road dog’s perspective. As the song rocks away before the hand clapping anthemic part comes in, there’s even elbow room for a blistering guitar solo from Al Lepson, JD’s fellow native NY band mate. Also backing JD are the power packed rhythm section of Mike Willson on drums and Adrian Sanchez on bass, and backing singers Wendy, with Nicole Kubis and Nicole Perreira.

“No Secret” comes with some more to talk about than meets the ears, with a slower groove and a lot of contemplation that keeps it playing even when it’s no longer playing. You don’t get that impression every day with any rock, let alone the Power Pop variety. This is a gem beyond the usual run of the mill you get, especially with younger, more contemporary artists. “No Secret” shows them all a little something with a deeper cut to get through some of the hardest times we’ve ever seen, with a reflection of happier times. I hope these songs stay at the top of my playlist where they currently dominate.
