Exclusive Interview With “King Of Ghetto Rock” Billy Ray Rock

Billy Ray Rock is the King of Ghetto Rock, with a chart-topping single called “Get The Funk,” legions of fans he refers to as “The Ray Rockers” and an infectious attitude that will make a believer out of the staunchest of naysayers. Billy Ray took time from his busy production schedule to answer a few questions for his fans and our readers…

Hi Billy Ray!  It’s an honor and a pleasure to speak with you.  
What’s been going on in the world of the Ray Rockers?

“Ray Rockers” are people who are fans and support what I do in general, and I feel very blessed to have such a loyal group of folks that that seem to love what I do and such: my Ghetto Rock Genre, etc.

Your latest single, “Get The Funk” is a bit of an old school funk 
jam.  Not something you hear every day.  What is your favorite funky 
song of all time?

It has got to be “So Ruff So Tough” by Roger Zapp

Your single hit #2 on the iTunes charts in South Africa.  What does 
that mean to you?

It means the world to me it got there on the sure merits of the song. You know so many songs are propelled to the top by corporate structures and stuff but that was done strictly on word of mouth. I’m just ecstatic at its success.

How did you come to record and release “Ghetto Rock” music?

Well I felt like being a multi genre type artist I have no place to belong category wise. And I had a Ray Rocker on twitter call my music “Ghetto Rock” I said whelp if Howard stern can be the King of all media well dammit since I invented it, I’ll call myself the “King” of Ghetto Rock. But Ghetto Rock is basically Alternative rock with low rent Rap type lyrics laid down sometimes to a funky beat.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be and 
why?

I would likely amp up my excitement for new things and not try to predict the outcome before experiencing it. Why I think? It would enhance my creativity.

Who is the most famous person you’ve encountered?

‘Prince! I was at a party in LA and he came into the room. I wanted so bad to go over and meet him but he had so many folks around him, I did not wanna seem like some kind of groupie. So I did nothing.  I have regretted it ever since.

What’s next for Billy Ray Rock?

I am working on setting up a crowd cast so I can stream performances to people. I am also continuing to release music videos to some of my singles as we await the re-opening of the country. I am also planning a Tour of South Africa.
