Sugarcane Jane’s “Ruffled Feathers:” Authentic Americana

“I’m leaving myself wide open, ‘cause I want you to see the real me”, Sugarcane Jane proclaims in the first track of their new hotly anticipated album, ‘Ruffled Feathers’. It seems that with this album, listeners will get exactly what they’re looking for – an authentic representation of who Sugarcane Jane are as artists. With an easy-going, laidback guitar-strum groove, songs like ‘Feelings In A Song’ provide for a meaningful, yet nostalgic, relaxing listen. Drawing memories of good times and golden days, Sugarcane Jane’s duotone harmony and sweet, honest and sincere delivery marry together with a swinging percussion line in the album’s opener. Sticking to their signature formula of feel-good, country/folk/adult contemporary anthems, the album’s fourth track, ‘Good Book Stories’ carries on Sugarcane Jane’s momentum. “It goes with the territory from the good book stories…we all need to band together” – memorable lyrics like these blend with a jamming electric guitar solo to deliver yet another highlight on the album. Finally, ‘Ruffled Feather’s closer, ‘Holy Spirit’ is another track that has Sugarcane Jane’s stamp all over it. Despite being an instrumental song, the dueling guitars, tropical drums and sonic atmosphere of ‘Holy Spirit’ continue to display the band’s talent and artistry that’s also showcased throughout the rest of this album. For a fun outing that reminds you of good times, Sugarcane Jane’s ‘Ruffled Feathers’ should be your new go-to album.
