Exclusive Interview with Josey

We are talking about all things music with Josey today! Excited to chat with you. Share with us a little about yourself and how you got into music?

I’m Josey born and raised in Houston, Texas! I’m a first generation american, my family is from Nigeria, I went to college in Chicago and loved it but it’s too cold haha my senior year i studied abroad at pop akademie in Germany for half a year. Once i graduated i moved to nashville and i’ve been here ever since! I first started off with dance as a kid then quickly got into theatre and singing in the church choir. I started writing songs and playing guitar at 11 years old. I really dove into music because for a while it was my only friend and till this day it’s the one thing that has never left my side.

You recently played at The Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville. Tell us what that experience was like for you?

Ah I still can’t believe I got to perform there! It was such a special experience. I was 1 of 5 songwriters chosen for the acoustic guitar project. We had one week to write one song with one guitar, no edits or co writers. Then we all got to perform that song and another original at the event. It was a packed crowd, it felt good and inspiring.

What do you want listeners to take away or feel after listening to your music?

I want my listeners to feel empowered to live and speak their truth. I want them to feel invincible, like they can demand better from people in their lives, they should apply for that job or quit and travel the world. I want them to feel safe, free & loved.

2022 is flying by us, do you have any career goals for yourself this year? Would you be willing to share some?

I know this year is going by so quickly! My biggest goal is to release an EP near the end of this year or early next year! I would also love to get a sync placement with one of my current songs. Last year i was booked to play nashville pride but it got rained out the day i was scheduled to play. So I’m manifesting, actually getting to play Nashville pride this year! I would also love to start playing more festivals!

Tell us your favorite things about making music.

My favorite thing about making music is the process, it really is like therapy. I love telling stories and the truth, esp my truth and my stories and then seeing others find themselves in your story, it’s a beautiful thing.

Where can we find you on socials to keep up with your journey and get our hands on your new music?
