IndiePulse Reviews “The Blues Is Back” the new album by Karen Lawrence

Review by Joseph Timmons, IndiePulse Music Journalist.

Karen puts it all on the line, simply fabulous..

Blues / Rock Vocalist Karen Lawrence is back & brining the heat with her latest release “The Blues Is Back”. This album celebrates her dynamic and powerful style and her ability to compose music that is, in itself, a living and breathing spiritual being.

Karen Lawrence, a living Legend of the music scene has an incredible discography and has worked with every big name in the industry, but with her humble persona, she continually grows and rises to any and every challenge, bringing her all in her musical “A-GAME”.

All songs written by Karen Lawrence (Girl’s Night Out Music BMI) and some tracks feature the talents of her long-time partner in blues, Fred Hosteller, and on this album has her all-star cast of musicians.

So, Let’s Get to the Review!

The album starts off with a track titled “Made to Move”, a song about a restless spirt that just can’t stay still, deep rich vocals and the music with a traditional blues tone that brings on waves of joy and emotion. Speaking of moving, the next track called “Easy” has a smoother and gentle tone, swelling and flowing like a buoy in the water, in a sea of life, like live a wave comes crashing down, yet when you get to come up for air, it is just so sweet.

“True Love” has a country guitar feeling, a tale of wandering the world looking for love, followed by “I’m Coming Home” an upbeat and lively song of comfort in a pair of loving arms, weary of the lonesome road.

“Die Blue” the feelings of loss and loneliness is almost a living death, and knowing that loss may be coming soon, sadness seems like it will last forever, the sun feels cold and so far, far away. “The Blues is Back”, another traditional blues style of tempo and rendering, this song is definitely a moment where Karen’s talents and vocals truly shine, she is in her moment, perfect and divine.

“Heaven’s Masterpiece” is a song full of passion, dreams and desire, that all seems to fade when the one you love disappears, but everything heals in time. Track 8 is “Takeaway” which to me has a Motown sound to it, this is the kind of R&B / Soul sound you would say had the Detroit Feel.

“Way Way Down” dives deep into the smokey den of desire, the woman plays it straight and tell the man of her desire that she wants it all, not just his heart, but his everything, and she won’t take no for an answer. The album ends with “Hold on to Me” , talk about a show stopper, this track is great but probably wild when seen and heard live, Karen puts it all on the line, simply fabulous..
