‘Sleeper’ Championed Psychotropic Newcomers ‘Soft Sports’ to Release Debut Single

Soft Sports, formerly known as ‘TV Dinner’, have announced that they will release a new single on the 7th December 2018.

“a completely authentic delivery, believable and engaging with echoes of CSNY, Dylan, The Allman Brothers and Little Feat but with a modern musicality and lyrical flair that will appeal to fans of Tame Impala, Clean Cut Kid or The Magic Gang”

– Andy Maclure (Sleeper)

‘Gordon’, recorded at Soup Studios in East London with producer Giles Barrett (John Grant, Johnny Flynn, Goat Girl), will be available digitally and is the first single taken from their eagerly awaited EP – which is expected early next year. The three track EP was recorded live via tape, capturing the band’s intoxicating chemistry and showcasing their musicianship.

Watch – ‘In My Dreams’ Live at Sofar Sounds:

“we’re best represented in a live setting where we can alter arrangement on the spot to create an ever moving, dynamic experience and we’ve done our best to recreate this on the record”

–  Frontman Christopher Matthewson

The Brighton-based three piece use their psychedelic, Americana and soul infused folk-rock to tell stories of observational triumph, and woe in the digital age. The band’s combined collaborators include Chic’s Ralph RolleAmber RunSam BrookesAllysha Joy and London Grammar to name a few.

Previously the solo project of Matthewson, Soft Sports have been playing shows throughout the country together for several years. The band made a name for themselves in their hometown through their collaborations and sold out headline gigs at some of Brighton’s most renowned intimate venues such as The Prince Albert and The Haunt.

Taking inspiration from artists such as George Harrison and Joni Mitchell, Donegal born frontman and songwriter Matthewson contorts these influences into something subtly psychotropic and off-beat, reviving political-folk themes for the iPod generation.
